About Day and Night

Length of Day and Night

We here on Earth experience day and night as the earth rotates on it's axis. We experience day when the area of the earth is facing the Sun and night when the area of the earth is facing away from the Sun.

At the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere, the Arctic has total daylight and the Antarctic has total darkness. The opposite occurs at the winter solstice. At the equator, the length of day and night are almost equal all the year, at 30° the length of day varies from about 14 hours to 10 hours and at 50° from about 16 hours to 8 hours.
